The Casio Exilim EX-P505 represents a new class of camera that we call hybrids, which combine a full-fledged digital still camera and a digital camcorder. Though we've seen still cameras that can shoot video and camcorders that can shoot stills for quite some time, these new models are intended to be dual-function devices to a much greater extent. For instance, some still cameras can shoot video to the capacity of their memory cards, but a key characteristic of hybrids is the ability to zoom and refocus while shooting video, just like a camcorder, and most hybrids will also have a variety of special modes that take advantage of that they serve as both types of cameras. Although you might not want to get rid of your camcorder just yet, the EX-P505 hybrid can do both video and stills well, taking 5-megapixel photos and 640-by-480 MPEG-4 videos. ...
